Les régions de culture La cueillette

an "agri-cultural" extravaganza

The brain child of Michael Schmidt musician, farmer and owner of Glencolton Farms near Collingwood, Symphony in the Barn has its origin in the Saugeen Bach Choir and Musical Society founded by Michael ten years earlier with the aim of bringing his love of classical music to the rural communities of western Ontario.

This summer marks a new era for Symphony in the Barn. Under the direction of Michael and orchestra members Emmanuel Vukovich (concert master) and David Molina the full orchestra will live for five weeks on the farm. The communal nature of the farm will be provide the musicians with an opportunity to connect not only on a musical level, but personally, intellectually and emotionally as well. Since the inaugural performance of Hayden's Creation in 1995, the Symphony draws thousands of music lovers each year to The Barn which in early June is prepared with stage, professional lighting and seating for over 500 music lovers.

In a warm and simple atmosphere, with fresh farm flowers, the aroma of freshly baked bread in the air and birds chirping in the rafters supporters have heard Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, the five Beethoven Piano Concerts with Anton Kuerti, Lehar's The Merry Widow and Gluck's opera Orpheus and Eurydice just to name a few.
